About Us

AK-Interactive is a dynamic Spanish company that was founded in 2010 in the city of Logrono. The history of this company is full of mystery and myths but in reality it only conceals a “machine“ to generate ideas and high quality products of great world acclaim! Like all mysteries, these were created and idealized in the minds of many modelers and clients who, despite everything, have put their trust in us from the beginning and have opted for our originality and quality. That is precisely the key to the success of this company, which has skyrocketed us to the top of international prestige in creating new ideas and products. But the truth is that the main rocket engine has been Mig Jimenez, who from the beginning provided expertise and knowledge to build the largest weathering products company in the world of miniatures. Now, AK-Interactive is the undisputed leader in this field thanks to all of you who have trusted in the teamwork that makes this a symbol of international modeling. Now AK-Interactive is you!

THE TRUTH EXPOSED

Through the years, many people have believed numerous stories about the origin and ownership of this company. In part these rumors or stories are somewhat justified. On the one hand, many people believe that AK-Interactive is owned by Vallejo Acrylics, however this is totally false. The origin of this story is that the owner of AK-Interactive is Fernando Vallejo, who has the same name as the popular Spanish brand of acrylic. This is purely a coincidence, just as someone called Peter Obama is not necessarily a relative of Barack Obama. In addition, another factor has created confusion because Mig Jimenez has collaborated on some projects with Vallejo Acrylics. This we will detail later. We should like to conclude by saying that the two companies have no relationship at present, neither of a commercial nor personal nature. On the other hand, there is the belief that Mig Jimenez is the owner of the two companies, Mig Productions and AK-Interactive. This is also totally false and Mig Jimenez does not currently own MIG Productions, but he is the emblem of AK-Interactive and all his work is developed exclusively for his company. Nowadays Mig Productions is only part of Mig Jimenez’s past and his name just stays there. Now let’s see who is who in the AK-Interactive team!

MIG JIMENEZ

Possibly the best known modeler worldwide, who started in his modeling career in 1995 by publishing articles in over 20 different countries. This revolutionized modeling techniques with innovative and easy to follow explanations on how to achieve realistic models. His professional life was devoted to explaining and helping modelers to lose their fear of painting and risk trying different things. In 2002 he created the famous MIG Productions Company, and as a creator, consolidated almost all current painting techniques. He developed filters, pigment techniques and countless washes and oils applications never seen before. For the first time in the history of modeling, the process of the setting and weathering of a model was more important than simply applying a base color and a bit of dry brushing. That company was a revolution for all, and Mig Jimenez continued to develop easy to use techniques and applications. In 2005, his book FAQ, became a worldwide best seller, thus helping many modelers reach a level never before imagined. However, in 2009 misfortune fell upon him and in a maneuver by his former partner, he lost everything including his own company and all of its assignments. That disaster left him destitute until he bounced back in 2010. This was when a friend who had been a customer at his previous company offered to start a new project. That person was Fernando Vallejo who at that time owned a small book and hobby shop. AK-Interactive was born! This new collaboration was like a breath of fresh air to Mig Jimenez because he was finally able to develop many new projects with a much higher quality than in his previous company. He could focus solely on creating new ideas and new applications. He made several DVD’s, wrote books and articles, created and improved modeling techniques for the second time. The AK-Interactive rocket had taken off and over the years it has continued to accelerate. In the early AK-Interactive days, Mig Jimenez developed some projects with Vallejo Acrylics in what seemed to be a good joint venture. However the relationship soon broke down because Vallejo Acrylics had utopian pretensions. From that time on Vallejo Acrylics would not produce more paint and AK-Interactive was forced to manufacture its own products in its factory. They only made two sets of colors with Vallejo Acrylics and these were quickly replaced by the new generation of AK-Interactive acrylics. Mig Jimenez has travelled extensively, doing painting demonstrations to explain new techniques to modelers. He has published the new FAQ2 which again, has become a worldwide best seller. He has converted AK-Interactive into the world leader in paint products for modeling.

FERNANDO VALLEJO

The President of AK-Interactive began his career as a modeler and customer of Mig Jimenez. He also owned a bookshop which he later converted into a specialist model shop. In 2010 he offered to start a new project with virtually unlimited funds. Fernando’s flair for business and investment and entrepreneurship made AK-Interactive grow very quickly from the beginning. His gentle nature and generous dealing with customers have made him appreciated in any new business. Today he continues to seek new challenges and invest in expanding the activities of AK-Interactive.

CARLOS CUESTA

At the beginning of Mig Jimenez’s professional phase, Carlos was his right hand man and his financial and business strategy advisor. Shortly after AK-Interactive was born, Carlos joined the team as Project Manager and coordinator of the editorial section. He is also an accomplished modeler and has published numerous articles.

RICK LAWER

This great modeler from Oregon, in the United States, worked with Mig Jimenez as the President of the United States and Canadian regions, but because of Mig’s circumstances, as explained earlier, they had to separate for a few years. Rick has recently started to work again with Mig Jimenez and AK-Interactive and he is currently making models and testing AK products. He also contributes numerous articles for the AK Blog and publishes in countless magazines worldwide. He is constantly researching and creating new ideas and techniques.

IAIN HAMILTON

This modeler from the American East Coast began to work with AK-Interactive almost from the beginning and soon founded AK-Interactive USA, a company directly linked to AK-Interactive SPAIN, thus providing an expansion to our brand presence in the U.S., something fundamental for modelers and customers in that country. Iain is responsible for the promotion and distribution but also provides direct assistance to modelers. He also conducts numerous seminars and painting demonstrations. Iain is without doubt one of the cornerstones of this company.
